Background
Enabel is strengthening its institutional environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and corporate sustainability framework against a backdrop of increasing requirements regarding responsible and sustainable development. This approach aims to improve the management of environmental and social risks, to integrate sustainability across all projects, and to enhance the organisation’s environmental performance, in particular by monitoring its carbon footprint and its emissions reduction trajectory.
In response to the growing expectations of donors and the need to implement consistent and operational practices across its entire portfolio, Enabel is recruiting an ESG/CSR & Environment Expert. The aim of this key role is to translate environmental and social requirements into integrated processes, practical tools and harmonised practices, whilst ensuring compliance with audit requirements and strengthening internal capacity.
Job description
As ESG/CSR & Environment Expert, you will join the Climate Governance, Green Building, Energy & Water unit and report to its coordinator. You are responsible for developing ESG training tools and guides and ensure the operational coordination of external contributors and/or consultants (under framework agreements).
Responsibilities:
- You ensure the quality of projects in terms of environmental and social management.
- You will provide strategic advice and support institutional development in relation to CSR/ESG aspect, the governance of environmental management systems and the integration of environmental issues.
- You are responsible for the ESG-related systems, tools and processes within the organisation.
- You are the CSR manager (responsible for monitoring the carbon footprint and tracking emissions reductions).
- You will help build the capacity of colleagues at the Brussels office and in offices abroad.
- You are involved in knowledge management.
- You play a role in representing the organisation, networking and maintaining partnerships.
Your profile
Required qualifications
- Master’s degree in environment/sustainable development, environmental management, or engineering with a specialisation in environmental and social management systems measures or equivalent.
Required experience
- Solid, transversal environmental experience in international cooperation (waste/circular economy, pollution prevention, efficient use of resources, awareness of biodiversity, environmental management measures).
- Experience of working with donors and international financial institutions on environmental and social management systems (ESMS) and audit preparation is an asset.
Required skills and knowledge
- A sound practical understanding of environmental and social risk management, the planning of mitigation measures and document management,
- Proven ability to implement and manage practical systems (processes, tools, templates, quality assurance cycles, training programmes),
- A facilitation and support mindset (guiding teams, encouraging the adoption of best practices, simplifying processes without compromising standards),
- Knowledge management and knowledge building.
- You are result-oriented.
- You are fluent in spoken and written French or Dutch. Because of the international context of the job, mastery of English is required.
