Background
Enabel in Rwanda is implementing projects funded by third parties (European Union and Luxemburg) in Health, Agriculture, Urbanisation, Forestry and the Regional teacher’s initiative in Africa
Regional Teachers' Initiative in Africa (RTIA) and for Africa is a €100 million EU investment in empowering the world's fastest growing youth population through quality education. This flagship initiative under the EU–Africa Global Gateway Investment Package aims to accelerate the training of teachers for Sub-Saharan Africa, responding to the need for 15 million new qualified teachers for Africa by 2030. The initiative will contribute to regional and national objectives by supporting and complementing national education and teacher reforms.
The European Union, African Union, UNESCO, is partnering with interested African countries to build up the numbers of motivated and competent teachers. The initiative is open to all countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and North African countries in some activities.
The initiative will put an emphasis on teachers in basic education acquiring and transmitting digital and green skills that future-proof students for the world of tomorrow, enable them to plug into the opportunities of the digital transformation, and engage them in the preservation of our planet.
To ensure business continuity, Enabel is hiring a Professional Intern in Digitalization (f/m).
Duty station: Kigali, Country Office
Contract Duration: 6 months extendable once
Starting date: June 2026
Function:
As Digitalization Internee for the Direct Scaling project in Rwanda, the Intern will (1) contribute to the direct implementation of the key activities in Rwanda; (2) contribute to the identification of lessons learned and knowledge management both within the international set-up of the Enabel component in Tanzania and Uganda.
He/She will work under the direct supervision of the D4E Field Officer based in Rwanda and in close collaboration with the D4E Expert based in Tanzania and Uganda, and flying IT officers (one in each partner country).
The main tasks entrusted to the Professional Intern (f/m) are:
Responsibility 1:
Support the implementation of the country activities for the Enabel Digital Innovation for Education scaling project.
• Support in selection of beneficiary institutions and relevant partners based on a clear set of pre-identified criteria
• Support the roll out mobile digital education toolkits in selected beneficiary institutions
• Contribute to the procurement of equipment and materials, as well as of specialised expertise, whilst taking into account the environment and contextual risks
• Contribute to the development of learning resources, teacher guides and modules for teachers in close collaboration with selected experts/ consultants
• Support the development, launch and selection of calls for proposals to strengthen the capacity building offer
• Contribute to the coordinate the requests for expression of interest and selection of teacher champions
• Support the installation and configuration of open-source software solutions (e.g. Moodle)
• Combine each intervention with engagement in train the training of teacher champions to enable sustainability of the action.
• Support the development of innovative business and governance models for the innovation hubs in close coordination with the selected teacher champions
Responsibility 2:
Information exchange and collaboration with all partners of the RTIA project (Team Europe).
• Contribute to sharing information with all team members of the project components of the RTIA project
• Contribute to co-create, share and exchange on knowledge products on green, digital and gender-transformative principles, approaches and practices
• Contribute to foster strategic partnerships among European and African partners for the inclusion of green, digital and gender transformative principles and approaches in education policies, frameworks, and initiatives
• Contribute to coordination of RTIA activities within the supported learning institutions with a focus on working with IT and Digital learning and teaching equipment.
Profile:
Required qualifications.
• Rwandan Citizen
• Age: maximum 25 years old
• Alumni of the University of Rwanda within 12 months of graduation.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer sciences or a similar IT-related field.
• Must have minimum 70% grade (2nd upper division or equivalent).
Skills and knowledge
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build trust with partners (facilitation, coaching, negotiation, flexibility, empathetic attitude, networking) and ensure strong collaboration with RTIA colleagues
• Self-organisational, open to change and continuous learner, results-oriented, and Team player.
• Knowledge of digital project management methodologies and processes.
• Good understanding of aspects of development cooperation and sustainable development,
• Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English, knowledge of French would be an asset.
• Ability to work in an international, multi-stakeholder environment, maintain effective and cooperative relations,
• Ability to contribute effectively to a collaborative governance framework by taking ownership, being accountable, and communicating honestly and transparently.
